January meeting at Tullaroop Reservoir

On Wednesday January 4th 18 club members had a very enjoyable social gathering at the Tullaroop reservoir, for a picnic tea, being the first event of the New Year.

While the breeze was a little cool later in the night, members had a chance to talk to each other to tell about their Christmas experiences and day trips to various places, while having a nice social drink, and a lovely meal, together in good company.

Jenni, as usual, did a great job in preparing the salads and cold meats, as she did on a previous Club picnic. While a few members bought their cameras, there weren’t a lot of photos taken, as the surrounds didn’t really lend themselves to creative photography, which a number of members seem to be interested in these days. These type of social outings are a great opportunity to get to know other Club Members in a relaxed and informal environment, and at the same time to listen to other people’s experiences and thoughts on our common interest - photography.

Later in the year in our program we will be having a picnic/BBQ at Hanging Rock – should be a great outing.

End of Year Dinner 2011

Our December meeting was highlighted by our Annual Image of the Year Competition. It was a wonderful night for everyone as it celebrated the best images that were taken for the year. And what a year it was! There is no doubt that the quality of the work on display is improving each year and all of those who participated should be congratulated on their progress. Thanks also to our judges, Mark Fairburn and co. from the Bendigo Camera Club. They had a difficult task but provided excellent comment to support their decisions and everyone can get valuable information about their work from heeding their advice.

Hastings Weekend

This was my first weekend away on a camera club activity. What was I expecting? To learn more about using my camera? Spending more time with members? Having a good time? Well this weekend ticked all of those boxes and more. I don't always get the time to just take my camera out and take photos when I am at home so going on the weekend meant that photography was my only priority.
I really appreciated the opportunity to mix with club members with more time than what we normally have at our club meeting nights. I hadn't really talked with Don and Jan before at our meetings so it was good to break the ice and see some of their photographs from their trips around Australia.
The weekend was really well organised (thanks for your work Adrian), we shared a three bedroom house and the costs were surprisingly cheap. We were also given a home base by the Hastings Yacht Club and their hospitality was warm and inviting.
Hastings proved to be an interesting place and this weekend in particular seemed to offer such a range of possibilities for shooting and such a contrast in photographic opportunities: seascapes, mangrove swamps, action shots at the carnival, people shots at the street parade, static displays of cars and boats in the park and night shots of the moonrise on Saturday night (pity I left my tripod at the caravan park). I was really up in the air about this photo.
We all wanted to know when the parade was going to start.
